Is it true that the ashes of a wood stove is good for a lawn?

I was told that the ashes of a wood stove was good for a lawn. Can someone answer me?

Yes and no. In very small quantities spread over a large area, it will add potassium to your lawn. Too much and you cause a chemical burn grass. Be careful when handling wood ash: Protect Yourself as you would if you were handling bleach or other strong alkaline material. Wear goggles, gloves and a dust mask. Do not drink using combustion ash trash, cardboard, coal or pressure treated, painted or stained. These materials contain potentially harmful chemicals, glue in cartons containing boron, an element that can inhibit plant growth if applied beyond. Do not scatter the ashes during the periods windy. Do not mix the ashes with nitrogen fertilizer as ammonium sulfate or ammonium nitrate or urea. These lose their nitrogen as fertilizer ammonia gas when mixed with high pH materials such as wood ash. For a lawn, wait at least one months after the wood ash is applied before applying nitrogen fertilizer to allow the soil to reduce the alkalinity of wood ash.
