Commercial Ozone Air
Monday, September 12th, 2011why is styrofoam still used as cups or food packaging materials?
styrofoam, a commercial name for EPS (expanded polysterene ) is made of Benzene, a cancer causing substance. But why is it still widely used? Although recyclable, it is not much sought commercially because of its lightness,98% air, thus a major pollutant. However, the production of this is what matters too, the "air bubbles" is in fact processed by using CFC's(chlorofluorocarbons) before which is a major destroyer of the ozone layer, now ALLEGEDLY replaced by HCFC's (hydrocholorofluorocarbons) 95 % less destructive, but still an ozone layer destroyer.
Further, a damaged ozone layer can not filter the harmful UV (ultraviolet) rays from the sun, thus causing skin cancers, blindness by cataract and diminishing yields of UV damaged crops and other bio-diversity life and food sources. What should we do? Evil triumped only b/c of the inaction of the good.
This is a serious matter that should be addressed by all government agencies concerned, like the Department of Environment & Natural Resources (DENR), Education (DECS), Department of Justice.
DENR could perhaps properly investigate the firms engaged in the manufacture of products you mentioned, and if they are found to be damaging to the environment, to coordinate with the municipal governments to revoke licenses to operate.
DECs could start a campaign for our youth to become aware of the dangers of these products to the environment, and at their homes, to learn not to patronize these products.
The Department of Justice could vigorously prosecute those culprits who continue to defile nature, if not under existing laws, by other technicalities that I am sure they have. Because under law, for every injustice there is remedy, and it is injustice to the homeland what these products are doing.
And I, my Dear Pharaoh, shall begin at home and advise the clans under my leadership, to begin a ban on these products.
