How many times do you need to change the water filter on a refrigerator?

I bought a new refrigerator slightly more a year that has an icemaker and water dispenser on the door. There is a filter indicator on the inside that the countdown when it is time to change the water filter. I used the water dispenser twice since it was purchased and the ice maker is turned on once every three months or more. Should I change the water filter when the indicator says it's time or can I wait long?

Your refrigerator water filter is almost certainly using a charcoal filter and perhaps another form of filtration. Although different manufacturers have different guidelines for how long the filter, it is very common for a filter line for the last six months. Your best bet is to find the model and then contact the manufacturer for the recommended life of a filter, which can vary from a few months in both meaning based on various factors. What is important for you to know is that regardless of how many times you've used, you should change it regularly, once the filter is wet. Once the filter is wet, obviously harmful contaminants remain in contact with the filter. In your case, you would not put in place a large number of contaminants so that your filter is probably remain very effective for his life. However, the filter will still accumulate contaminants and the media moist, bacteria will inevitably form. This is your big concern.
