Is it okay to use purified water for my humidifier?

I just bought my first guitar and I bought a humidifier to keep it in good conditions. The package says to use distilled water to dampen the sponge, but would it be okay if I used purified water from my Brita filter? Or should I really buy distilled water?

Thanks.
I read and was told that if you live in a place where it's dry (such as winters in NY/New Jersey), it's good for your guitar (considering it's made out of solid wood and not laminate).

As noted above, the humidifier will work fine even if you use tap water--but with tap water, minerals will build up in it and you'll need to replace it sooner.

Distilled is the most pure water you can get. Purified might be close to distilled, it depends on the purifier. If you're using a reverse-osmosis purification system, then it's probably just as good as distilled. If its a Pur under-counter filter system (like what I use) it's pretty close. If it's a Culligan tap attachment, or a Brita pitcher, it's going to be further from distilled.

Frankly, I don't expect that any purified water will build up in your unit so quickly as to cause concern.
