Is this really the consumption of oil consumption similar to whale oil?

In "A History of the United States Patriot" a cautious response to Zinn "A Peoples' History of the United States", the authors cover American history from the perspective of right. Whenever possible, they attempt to establish historical parallels with current events to support conservative positions. For example, they mention the Americans went through when the price of kerosene for whale oil became prohibitive. It was an illusion of energy debate renewable natural that the market will embrace alternative energy sources when fossil fuels become too expensive. No intervention of preparation or government required. However, our economy is more dependent on oil today that it has today on the back of whale in the 19th century. Is it really wise to wait on the market "oil considering the potential to shut down our economy and even our food production?

I think this will push us to drill our own massive reserves of oil, until we can develop renewable energy. We have 100 years of manufacturing, automotive, construction, transportation industries ... all oriented towards the use oil. If you want to use electricity ... we need new engines, new parts, new delivery methods, new "Green sources" for all that crap. It will take time.
