Stoves Mills

Why wont my firewood burns?

I went to a sawmill and bought big kid scrap wood to use in my fireplace. These are some seriously hard, dense pieces of wood, pretty sure its oak. I know that if I use a stove wood, they burn hot for quite some time. but I cannot seem to get caught in my fireplace. I tried to burn a couple of hours now. all the little pieces of wood and kindling and burned w / no problem. This piece is burning and black, but its not giving out any flame. Whats up with that?

You need more heat and smaller pieces. If the piece you are trying to burn is too large it will not catch fire. Therefore the Firewood is divided into smaller pieces.Hardwood as the oak takes more heat to start, but once it's burning it makes a good fire. Of course, it will not burn if timber is not green.
