Portable Buddy
Does anyone have any experience with the MSR Miox system of water filtration?
I am looking for something lightweight and portable camping and backcountry riding and have heard good things about the MIOX. A friend of mine is in the Navy and was granted one, says it works very well for most ... In addition to not clean the body floating in water. Has anyone picked one of these up and had a chance to use it? I'm really curious about how it was and how easy it is found its use to be. Also, how the brine well "taste" leaves behind in water. I usually roll with a pair of 2L bladders and this figure is expected to resign and should be fairly easy to drop in brine the packet instead of fiddling with a pump. Need some thoughts / feedback but if anyone has experience with this device.
I used a few times. I have not noticed too "taste" Briney .. it was less sensitive than the taste of chlorine or iodine. I do not fall sick, so I guess the Miox functioned properly. It was not really difficult to use. It makes the solution and the discharge of water. There was really nothing hard about everything. I have not noticed many problems with those we were testing, but if it breaks and you do not iodine tablets as a back-up ... you're screwed. So you must ask yourself, why do you wear the Miox and a chemical back-up, or simply give up Miox to and use of chemical treatment as your primary means of purifying water? I face the same question when I look my water filter. As I do not mind the taste of iodine, I usually take only PolarPure and allow mechanical devices at home.
