Oil Filter
What if my oil filter is rated for 5000 miles, but my synthetic motor oil is rated for 15,000 miles?
Does this mean I have to go through the hassle of emptying (to preserve) my synthetic oil every time I replace the oil filter? Are there long term (15,000 miles between changes) filters motor oil available?
Here below are the longest filter life available oil, Amsoil is one of them. What makes them last? Quality oil filter is based on many criteria but one of the most important is the amount of "media" in the filter. The media fiber "that traps contaminates, when 99% of the largest manufacturers can only make oil filters for 3-5k How can you make another one to go 15k? They can not. If you're smart enough to use a synthetic why "dumb" (nothing personal) to the top with not wanting to simply replace an oil filter & 1/2qt. oil every 3-5k? Do yourself a favor and change your oil and filter on a Regular! PS-When you just change the oil filter, you do NOT have to drain the crankcase. Just do the filter, run a vehicle for leaks and fill in the filter then top-off of oil than the gauge indicates. When you pull the filter you do not lose all the oil, perhaps a 1/2qt. even if you leave it for days! (depends on filter size) PSS-oil filters are equipped with a "bypass" valve when they are "full" (so to speak), the valve closes and no more oil filters, it comes as it happens!
