This was the last time we touched. The unit asks you to define the on - off time and set the time and date when you install it, then you really do not do much else. With the automatic adjustment feature, it resets the time summer, and automatically sets the lights when it is close to sunset and off at your preselected time - Nice if you do not want to install a photocell or manually change the start times throughout the year. My only complaint is that the screen LCD is very low, particularly showing day of the week, which means that when you decide to change the time you have to squint to really see what you. Only in one month, so I can not speak to its long-term reliability, but so far it worked better than the SS8C. It is quieter - No mechanical switch (I assume it must be fully electronic), it offers all the programming options as SS8C, the more it looks a little more elegant on the wall. Not only that, it's cheaper than SS8C about $ 14. I take off a star, but because is not compatible DST 2007. I had to remove the built-DST and now I manually rush and retreat. Regarding compact fluorescent light bulbs, last night, we bought eight 40 watt equivalent "n" brand vision soft white compact fluorescent bulbs (9 watts, 550 lumens, green and white package) from Home Depot and install them this morning. I was afraid they could not work since the packaging says EJ500C is not compatible with compact fluorescent bulbs, but fortunately they do work quite well! I taken down eight 60-watt bulbs and I am now saving 408 watts of electricity. The only thing I can think that might not do the job EJ500C with compact fluorescent bulbs is that it requires a charge of so-called at least 40 watts, so perhaps too little compact fluorescent bulbs might not be enough electrical power. For me, if I'm happy to be saving electricity and hope I have a porch light timer working visit more than a year.
