Overcharged for home AC - Heat Pump Service?
My AC is not working when we switched, so we had an HVAC guy out. He charged us $ 470 for the visit. He was here with another guy for 2 hours and put 5 pounds freon in our system. His diagnosis is that our system was empty (of course) of freon. During the rest of his visit, he cleaned the inside of the coil, cleaned the condensate pump, checked for leaks, etc. In essence, I had a little cleaning and 5 lbs of freon. Does this sound high? My wife was here and wrote the check, so I was not to ask questions. I was shocked to have paid so much for this service. Should I be?
Yes, you were overcharged the freon cost about $ 8 lb and cleaning and checking for leaks gor should be covered in the cost of the service call. The Most contractors charge about $ 50 an hour, the man so that the total cost of the service call was somewhere around $ 250. I'd be very worried if I were you.
